Energy storage system for household power solution

The demand for electricity is increasing enormously every year. We are therefore under pressure to look for green energy solutions. Energy from solar panels is expected to alleviate this pressure. With government support and reduced costs for energy generation from solar panels, energy storage systems are being brought into thousands of households. MORNSUN's complete power solution helps make these household energy storage systems simpler and more reliable.

Structure and components of a household energy storage system

The domestic energy storage systems are currently divided into two categories, grid connected and grid disconnected. The grid-connected household energy storage systems are powered by both the sun and the grid and consist of five components:

  • Solar panels
  • Inverter connected to the grid
  • BMS (battery management system)
  • battery pack
  • AC load

Grid-connected solution

When the power grid is working normally, the solar power system will feed the load along with the power grid. If this is not the case, the energy storage system switches on and takes the place of the electricity grid. The household energy storage system is divided into three modes:

  1. The sun provides energy storage and feeds the electricity grid
  2. The sun provides energy storage and supplies some of the residential electricity
  3. The sun only provides energy storage

Solution just closed

The household energy storage system, which is disconnected from the grid, is independent and has no electrical connection to the electricity grid. As a result, the system must have no grid-connected inverter, except for the PV inverter. The grid disconnected household energy storage system is also divided into three modes of operation:

  1. The sun provides energy storage and supplies household electricity in sunny days.
  2. The sun and the energy storage system provide electricity in cloudy days.
  3. The energy storage battery storage system provides electricity at sunset and rain.

In summary, a current energy storage system mainly consists of a battery management system (BMS), a grid-connected PC inverter and an energy storage inverter. Combined with the safety isolation requirement of the power circuit of the PV system units, MORNSUN proposes a complete power supply solution of the control unit.

Nutrient solution for the BMS

The battery is the most important part of the energy storage system and the online status must be continuously monitored, so the importance of the BMS is obvious. In the BMS, the battery control unit (BCU) communicates with:

CAN bus and the battery management unit (BMU) to get real-time values of voltages, cabinet temperature, insulation resistance and others

the current sensor to collect the charging and discharging currents and dynamic calculation

The BCU calculates and analyzes all this information from the battery and intelligently manages the system, communicating with the independent CAN bus system. The secondary protection of charging and discharging is achieved by a relay. The latter ensures effective isolation for strong and weaker electricity, meets customer demand for various security control, and guarantees stable and efficient operation of the system.
